Nano Protect Antifouling I BOAT is the first of two-stage nanopolymer protection. It is made on the basis of silicon with an admixture of other compounds, which provide basic protection against adhesion, overgrowth and damage by aggressive marine flora and fauna. It can actively repel these organisms and thus ensure real protection of your boat.
The best solution is the combination of this first anti-fouling protection layer and the second layer of hull protection II Pikatec Nano Protect Antifouling II, which ensures an increase in slip and thus an increase in speed, which leads to significant reduction in fuel consumption. It also serves as another protective layer.
A film-forming ultra-thin and invisible layer is formed on the surface, which is then extremely slippery, flexible and able to resist grease and moisture for a long time. This film protects the surface of the antifouling from subsequent contamination by biological organisms, deposition of mineral, salt and calcium coatings, oxidation, as well as against micro-scratches and impacts.
With its unique nanopolymer composition, it protects the treated surface from water, UV radiation, mineral deposition and salt, greasy and acidic dirt and fouling. Thanks to the extremely smooth and slippery surface, the costs of running and maintenance of the boat it significantly reduced (i.e. fuel consumption, subsequent cleaning up to 100%, extreme prolongation of antifouling life reduces the need to pick up boats to dry docks). Safe on all antifouling coatings and various varnishes.
Package Contents and Consumption
Contains 200 ml of Nano Protect Antifouling I BOAT - Hull protection I. layer. It is sufficient for about 15 m2, the price for 1 m2 is therfore cca 6,3 EUR. Consumption depends on whether the protection is applied directly to the hull or to the anti-fouling coating and on its quality. If you were interested in purchasing the products in bulk (wholesale), write to us please at spoluprace@pikatec.cz.
Salt vs. Fresh Water / On the hull vs. On antifouling varnish
All devices are tailored for extreme and demanding environments of marine conditions (salt water). Therefore, the protection is sufficient even for fresh water. The difference arises mainly in what we apply the PIKATEC Protection of the Hull on. For large boats and yachts that remain in salt water for at least half a year, it is common to protect their hull with antifouling paint. In that case, we recommend protecting this coating with PIKATEC protective polish. Thanks to gradual layering, the normal durability of 12 months is extended by a year to two, for a total of three years. During that time, there is no need to pull the boat out of the water, with difficulty clean and prepare for a new antifouling coating. For stationary ships, it is enough to clean the hull of the ship once in a while with a washing sponge, mostly at the beginning and at the end of the season. If the boat sails during the season, the hull actually cleans itself. Regular wiping just with a sponge prolongs the life of the PIKATEC protection. For small boats and wessels, antifouling is usually not available and therefore PIKATEC protection is the ideal care for these surfaces. Thanks to it, you will be able to keep the boat significantly cleaner, with less effort. The same applies for fresh water, where PIKATEC protection is applied directly to the hull.
The chapter itself is then racing boats, where we apply the protection of the hull in two layers directly on the bare hull. This makes the boat lighter, has better hydrodynamic drag and is therefore faster. In addition, maintenance and preparation before the race is much easier. In such an extreme conditions, where there is fight for every second, it could be beneficial to add one more layer of the II. protective polish half way through the season or to apply more than one layer of the protection polish all at the begining.
Right thanks to a significant extension of the durability of the entire hull protection system, the interval for picking up the ship from the sea is extended 2-3 times. This means extreme savings both for anti-fouling coatings and, above all, for the costs associated with handling your ship in ports.
Surface preparation procedure and application of protection polish
Applying the products is not complicated at all. There is just a few steps to follow. The surface must first be thoroughly cleaned and prepared. Then apply a protective polish, allow to solidify and polymerize for 2 hours, and then you can add II. layer - Nano Protect Antifouling II PIKATEC. Always refer to the current manual included in the package.
Surface preparation
A) Bare hull of the boat
Before protection polish application clean the surface as follow: first wash the surface with PIKATEC Shampo BOATS. If salt and limescale remained on the surfaces, use Calcium Remover BOAT. The last step is to degrease the surface with product Nano Degreaser and Polisher BOAT. It must be used always, whenever we have used Calcium Remover in the step before, or in particulat if we have been maintaining the surface with the help of various oils in the past. Also if you have been machine -polishing the hull, you need to thoroughly degrease it after the polishing. In that case, to ensure proper and entire degreasing, we recommend degreasing the surface in two steps -first with a strong PIKATEC degreaser and in the second step with a PIKATEC Degreaser and Polisher BOAT. If the surface was sufficiently clean and degreased though, just washing with the shampoo is enough and you can proceed straight to the application. For new boats, we recommend degreasing the surface just with the Nano Degreaser and Polisher BOAT before application. To this way prepared surface you can directly apply the protective polish - please follow the instructions below.
B) Hull protected by antifouling coating
In case the hull is protected by antifouling, we always recommend to add and restore this antifouling layer so, it looks like new, and only then to apply the PIKATEC protection on it. The recommended time between the antifouling coating and the subsequent protection application is 12-24 hours. This may vary though, so please follow the instructions of the manufacturer of the antifouling. The preparation is simpler in this case because you apply the Nano Protect Antifouling I BOAT directly to the antifouling coat, with no need to prepare the surface any further. Before application of PIKATEC Nano Protect Antifouling II wait at leas two hours.
Surface maintenance after application
Surfaces treated with Pikatec nanocosmetics are smoother, much more resistant to damage and for their maintenance it is enough to wipe them with a sponge. Moreover sailing itself will clean your boat as well. Otherwise we recommend wiping the hull with a sponge once a month or two. In the case the soiling and adhesion of the dirt increases and the maintenance of the boat becomes more difficult (after aproximetly two years) we recommend re-applying new layers, including antifouling. Otherwise, you only need to repeat the application after 3 years.
Protective Polishes Application
The product is ready for direct use. It is used onto anti-fouling coating, which is clean and dry, or on a clean and prepared hull. Nano Protect Antifouling I must be polymerized for at least 2 hours (after evaporation of the solvent) before final application of Nano Protect Antifouling II. Surfaces must not be hot or exposed to the sun. Shake before use. Apply by hand with a microfiber cloth, pad, or sponge. Polish in a circular motion evenly on the surface and let it dry for a MINIMUM of 2 hours. For larger areas, it is possible to spray, roll or paint with a brush.
On this way applied and hardened surface then apply PIKATEC Nano Protect Antifouling II - Hull Protection. Notice: If you would like to ensure 3 years long durability, we recommend repeating application of the I. layer one more time after 2 hours and only then applying the II. layer of hull protection.
Perform subsequent cleaning only with low pressure or medium pressure with clean water. Do not use turbo rotary high pressure cleaning, you may compromise the protection.
Use a fine sanding to remove the layer before applying a new antifouling.
Due to the wide range of surfaces, especially antifouling coatings, we recommend performing a TEST for the compatibility of the surface treatment before the actual application.
