The product is directly intended for Gelcoat of boats, but it is also suitable for painted surfaces of metal boats or plastic parts of boats. Whether it is the hull of the ship in the part above the waterline, or the surfaces directly on the ship, these parts of boat are very stressed. Especially if the ship has colors other than white, the maintenance of such a surface is difficult. Factors such as salt, limescale, biological material, chemicals, grease or other compounds constantly act on the surface of the ship and, if unprotected, disrupt its structure and "burn" inside. Of course, everything is worsen by the strong sun and UV radiation, which makes the surface fade, brittle and degrade. Eliminating the consequences of only one single season is very laborious then. The surface has to be polished and repaired again, which costs a lot of resources and effort.
PIKATEC Gelcoat protection protects against scratches, limescale, salt, biological material and minerals. A thin nanolayer of a special mixture of durable resin and extremely hard nanoparticles of silicon and zirconium creates a shield on the surface that protects it. Despite this protection, all factors can get to the protected surface, but the protection will not let them go inside, thanks to which the surface is not damaged. In addition, because the surface is perfectly smooth, the adhesion of these compounds is much smaller and cleaning is much easier. Significant added value is then strong UV filters, which prevent fading and degradation of the surface.
Thanks to the long-term protection, which lasts 1-2 years, the preparation for the season is much easier. The first year it is necessary to prepare the surface perfectly, which represents a certain effort, but it is comparable to the standard preparation of the boat for the season. However, for the next few years it is enough to rinse the boat and in case the hydrophobic effect works, that´s all, or iin the case that the hydrophobic effect is already about 60% of it after application, we recommend applying the protective layer again. However, before this application, the preparation is very easy due to the fact that the surface is still protected and the new layer will only complement the old one.
Always apply to surfaces free of all impurities. You will need our polisher and a microfiber cloth to polish the protective layer.

Salt water vs. Fresh water / Nano protect Gelcoat vs. Nano protect Antifouling II.
All devices are adapted for extreme and demanding environments of marine conditions (salt water). Therefore, the protection is sufficient even for salt water. The only exceptions are polishes intended for the part of the ship below the waterline, where the difference between use in salt water and fresh water is described more efficiently at this protection, which we call the protection of Antifouling. The key is not to confuse Home products with Boat products. Household products are not made for such extreme conditions and their functionality could be limited, so there is also a price difference depending on the higher concentration of nanoparticles and active ingredients.
Gelcoat protection is directly designed for this surface and has maximum protective properties and durability. Nevertheless, in some cases we would rather recommend the product Nano Protect Antifouling II instead. We recommend using it especially on hard accesible and difficult to apply surfaces with standard protection for PIKATEC gelcoat. The standard protection of PIKATEC gelcoat has better adhesion, better repellent properties, greater protective effect and also resistance to staining. Its service life is about 1-2 years, however, its application is more laborious. In contrast, the protective II. the hull layer is easier to apply, has lower protective properties and lower durability. If you choose Hull Protection II. layer, we recommend replenishing and following the instructions for this product every year.
Application of nanocosmetics
Applying the products is not complicated at all. You only need 4 steps to it. The surface must first be thoroughly cleaned and degreased. Then apply a protective polish, leave on for 30 minutes and then polish with a microfiber cloth and polisher. Always read the current manual.
Follow the steps below to clean. First wash the surface with PIKATEC boat shampoo.
If salt and limescale remains on the surfaces you want to protect, then use a Calcium Residue and Salt Remover for boats. The last step is to degrease the surface with Nano Degreaser and Polisher for boats, which must be used whenever we used a calcium and salt remover in the previous step, or we have maintained the surface in the past with various oils. If the surface is sufficiently clean and degreased, just wash with shampoo and you can go straight to the application. For new boats, we recommend only degreasing the surface before application, with our degreaser. You can apply a protective polish directly to the surface prepared in this way, please follow the instructions below. If you surface machine the Gelcoat surface before the first application, it must be thoroughly degreased after polishing. To ensure proper degreasing in this case, we recommend degreasing the surface in two steps. First with a strong PIKATEC degreaser and in the second step with a PIKATEC degreaser and polisher.
Maintenance of surfaces after application
Surfaces treated with Pikatec nanocosmetics are smoother, much more resistant to damage and only water and a microfiber cloth are sufficient for their maintenance. Wipe off any dirt lightly with it, the treated surfaces will always look like new. If the surface remains greasy even after wiping with a microfiber cloth, we recommend washing it with PIKATEC shampoo for boats, or possibly degreasing it once in a while with our degreaser, thus restoring the hydrophobic effect and the surface will be less dirty. When replicating after a year or two, simply wash the surface with shampoo and degrease with a degreaser, this process should be very easy compared to the first cleaning before application. The polish on the surface will work even after two years, and this will greatly simplify your work.
Application of protective Polishes
We always apply on a properly prepared surface. Washed, degreased and dried. Check the material for traces of water droplets or other stains. These need to be removed before application, otherwise you could "preserve" them in the protective layer and it would be very difficult to get rid of them afterwards.Shake the product very thoroughly before use and during application. Using a pump, place only one dose of protective polish on the application cloth. When working, try not to cross the already applied surfaces again, as this would increase the laboriousness of both application and subsequent polishing. You don't have to worry, we're moving in a nano environment and one layer (one swipe of the surface with an application cloth) is perfectly sufficient for surface treatment. It is really very important to apply a thin layer due to the subsequent polishing, what exactly "thin layer" means, you can see here in the video. At the moment when the cloth no longer leaves a weak film during application, we add another drop of protective polish to it and continue working. If we treat smooth shiny surfaces, we apply the protection in a circular motion. After application, let the polish harden for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, we start polishing the polish with a microfiber cloth, on which we lightly spray Nano Degreaser & Polisher BOAT. We do not put too much pressure on the cloth, if our workload increases, we will add Nano Degreaser & Polisher BOAT to the cloth again and continue until complete polishing. The cloth absorbs excess polish, so it is advisable to translate it and turn it at the time when it starts to leave traces during polishing.
One week to 2 weeks after application, it is good to wash the gelcoat by hand with warm water and after drying, clean it with a cloth, on which we lightly spray Nano Degreaser & Polisher BOAT again. This removes greases which the protective polish can remove from the gelcoat (so-called emulsifiers) and which, if not removed, limit the water-repellent effect. (If the water-repellent effect is good even after a week of up to 14 days, it is not necessary to complete this step)
- The protective polish cannot be removed from the surface by conventional means. If the water-repellent properties are locally reduced, for example when greasing the surface, or by covering the nanolayer with residual oils, etc., the surface must be thoroughly washed with warm water and, if necessary, degreased the affected area. The water repellent effect then restarts.
- On the surface of Gelcoat there may be residues of the original waxes, which are often used to protect this surface, these must always be removed before applying PIKATEC polishes.
- The protective polish can also be carefully used on matt varnishes. However, due to the different qualities of materials and varnishes, always try the application in a less visible place first and only then, if everything is in order, apply the entire surface. Lower quality matte finishes can change their appearance when any product is applied.
- Use the polish immediately after opening the bottle.
